Mr. Nakagawa apprenticed under the legendary master blacksmith Kenichi Shiraki, who founded the Shiraki Hamono brand, eventually becoming its head when Mr. Shiraki retired. In 2005, Mr. Nakagawa changed the brand’s name to Nakagawa Hamono.
Today, Nakagawa-san is one of the most renowned blacksmiths in the world of high-end artisanal cutlery. He works with all types of steel, but his mastery of heat treatment is most evident in his work with Ginsan, Aogami #1, and Shirogami #1 steels.
