The Masakage brand was founded by the renowned master sharpener Takayuki Shibata. He personally oversees the finishing and sharpening of every blade under the brand. Masakage offers several lines of knives, each forged by a different blacksmith. The brand was created to highlight the craftsmanship of the blacksmiths of the city of Echizen.

Made entirely by hand, the handle is crafted from dyed and stabilized birch wood.
The Kiri line is forged by the renowned master blacksmith Yoshimi Kato. The knives in the Kiri line are forged with a VG10 steel core. This high-carbon stainless steel, once forged, acquires excellent mechanical properties, such as remarkable edge retention and a razor-sharp cutting edge. The cladding consists of two layers of stainless Damascus steel.
