Since its founding in 2013, H&K Co. Ltd. has sought out the finest products Japan has to offer. In 2019, we developed our original brand, “Hatsukokoro.” The word Hatsukokoro comes from the Japanese proverb “don’t forget your original intention.”
Due to the contracts stipulated between the brand and the blacksmiths, the identity of some blacksmiths sometimes remains a mystery, which adds a touch of excitement.

Handmade, the handle is made of dyed and stabilized black ash burl with resin spacers.
Takahiro Nihei is another talented young blacksmith who studied in Sanjo under Yoshikane Hamono. All his work on these blades is done in-house, from rolling the steel to sharpening the knives; his attention to detail is evident. Takahiro is also known for his incredible work with the renowned Konosuke knife brand.
For the Shinkiro knives, he uses Aogami Super steel for the edge, which has been hand-forged with an exceptionally beautiful Damascus steel pattern and a fine kurouchi finish. Aogami Super steel is a favorite among many blacksmiths and users, both for being relatively easy to forge and for resulting in a knife that is incredibly easy to sharpen and becomes remarkably razor-sharp.
